from the General Chair
Mark E. Russell
It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the 2010 IEEE Phased
Array Systems and Technology Symposium. Recent advances and planned
developments in phased arrays make this event exciting and timely.
The symposium starts on the afternoon of Tuesday, October 12th
with an insightful plenary session including a keynote presentation
and speakers from around the world sharing their progress in phased
arrays. Wednesday, October 13th and Thursday, October 14th provide
two full days of technical paper and poster sessions. We have a
broad selection of tutorials being offered the morning before (Tuesday)
and the morning after (Friday) the technical presentations. These
tutorials will cover topics on phased array basics and recent breakthroughs,
digital beam forming, phased array antenna measurements, phased
array antenna modeling with Matlab and Random Arrays.
In addition, this symposium will have several special events held
during the week. Students at universities and colleges from around
the Northeast will be joining us for a Student Day. This event provides
them with the opportunity to attend a special introductory tutorial
about Phased Arrays on Tuesday morning, followed by presentations
from members of our phased array community sharing their personal
experiences on why they chose a career in phased arrays and the
many opportunities available in this field. The students will then
attend the plenary session in the afternoon. We hope this event
will encourage the next generation of phased array technologists.
We will also be hosting a Women in Engineering (WIE) reception on
Tuesday evening. This event is open to all attendees of the conference
and is intended to highlight the accomplishments of women in the
IEEE.
The dates of our symposium were chosen to coincide with the peak
of New England fall foliage. Come early for the Columbus Day weekend
and see the many famous sites in the area including historic Concord
&Lexington (known for their battles during the American Revolution),
the Boston waterfront and Quincy Market, Whale Watching Tours in
the Boston Harbor, Salem (famous for the witch trials) or head north
to see the foliage in the beautiful White Mountain National Forest.
The venue of this symposium, the Westin Hotel in Waltham, MA, was
chosen to enable you to easily access all of these spectacular sites.
We encourage you to make the most of this historic event by networking
with old friends, making new connections and sharing technology.
Together we will continue to advance our progress in Phased Arrays
Systems. I personally look forward to meeting you at the symposium.
